Departments may return excess personal property by completing a Request for Pickup - Surplus/Excess Property form and forwarding it to the Inventory, Surplus & Asset Management Department at unl_inventory@unl.edu. Moving Services will pickup the item(s) at the departmental location and deliver to the Inventory, Surplus & Asset Management Department Warehouse. There are no fees or charges to the returning department for these pickup services.
Returned excess/surplus property then becomes available to University Departments at the weekly "open houses" provided by the Inventory, Surplus & Asset Management Department.
Property not selected for use by the University is then offered for sale to the general public at Inventory, Surplus & Asset Management Department public auctions, which are held 8-10 times per year.
Fill out Request for Pickup - Surplus/Excess Property form.
Email completed forms to unl_inventory@unl.edu. There is no charge for picking up surplus property.
Email unl_inventory@unl.edu. if you would prefer the Surplus Form in Excel format.
Requirements for Computers
Computers will not be accepted or returned to the Inventory Department without a signature, from the returning department, certifying that the hard drives have been either erased or reformatted. A signature box has been placed on the Request for Pickup - Surplus/Excess Property form. This certification is being implemented to reduce potential liability issues involving transfer of software and access to confidential data. Pickup personnel have been instructed not to return computers to the Inventory Department without this certification being completed. Departments are cautioned that computers will not be accepted at the Inventory Department without this certification. We appreciate everyone's cooperation with this procedure.
Information Services recommends the use of Darik's Boot and Nuke (DBAN) as an effective, free tool to erase the hard drive. This software may be accessed on the web at: http://dban.sourceforge.net/
